well done

Thank you SPCA, for giving numbers! 2008: 1431! pets comming in, 400 rehomed. this made me realise how BIG the problem is.
Thank you for our loving Husky mix 'Norway', that we adopted in 2006. She is the most loving and enthousiastic dog ever. She is way more attached to us than our full breed Husky!

SCARY

And what makes it even more scary is when you realise that, besides the boarding kennels, they only have capacity to house 140 dogs there.

And still you have some people who insist on going to breeders or importing, because they only want a specific breed of dog

...

What people also don't seem to realise about pure bred dogs is that breeds normally come with specific health problems because these dogs have a limited gene pool and have been bred with the same problems over and over again over generations. My spaniel mix is much healthier and fitter at 9 years than my pure bred was without any real lifestyle differences. Just something to consider in making a decision. If only people wouldn't just let their dogs roam the streets creating unwanted litters as well the SPCA might have it a little better..

Too True!!!

I have a pure breed (which we got from the SPCA when he was surrendered) and a 100% pure dog (I think - sometimes I suspect she's part cat as well) at home.

The pure breed constantly has an upset tummy and skin rashes and hot spots that leave open, weeping wounds. You name a problem and he has it, whereas my 12kg 'Jack Russell' went to the vet to be fixed and she goes for her shots - otherwise she is as healthy as they come.

I also see the problems that my sister has with her bull terrier - in the three years that they've had her, she has cost them in excess of NAD 10,000 in operations and vet fees.

I could not agree with you more
