I visited Pet Planet over the weekend and had the shock of my life! The pet shop has a little courtyard at the back in which the owner keeps far too many animals which get chased by a 6 month old Boerboel. The poor animals can't get away from the dog who keeps on biting them.
Does the owner not need a permit/licence to keep "berg bokkies, krimp varkies, stok stertjies" etc??? Its unbelievable what she keeps there and in which conditions. I have contacted the SPCA on numerous occasions to no avail!!
Who can I contact to report her and have the poor animals rescued? She's what I would call a animal horder!! Never thought I'd live to see something like that in Walvis Bay.
Best of all she keeps some of her own pet dogs in the kitchen of her restaurant!!! Does this conform with the official health standards??
try Mr Devil Dreyer of the municipality in W/bay. He has 'helped' me on numerous occasions and may be able to do some thing about the pets in the kitchen situation...

Just after posting this wompf I phoned Mr Dreyer who said he will have a look for me! I just wish we could do something about the animals... Will try the SPCA again.

I have reported her to the health inspector of Walvis Bay, to the SPCA and to the editor of the Namib Times! I really don't know what else to do. We'll just have to see what repsonse we get out of th Namib Times. But I really think she should do us all a favour and close down.
Thanx for our support guys! Will definately stay in touch!

Damn, It's shocking to know that people can actually handle animals that way and think its acceptable! I hope for sure that the SPCA can and will do something about it!
Please keep us posted Katz! and about the Namib Times as well!
hoping for the best!!!

...if all else fails, keep calling the SPCA in Walvis, like five times a day if need be. i found that if people dont do what they promise, you hound them untill they are so gatvol they do their work just to shut you up... its a real pitty tannie Christina is in heavan now, cause she would have made herself herd at petplanet......
keep us updated indeed. in the meantime i'll try to think of more people who can help....

I had spoken to Floris but probably didn't leave him enough time to write an article in the Times today. But there was an article in it with the lady from the SPCA holding a dead 'bokkie' that was mauled to death by dogs!!! The very 'bokkies' that A CERTAIN PET SHOP brought into Walvis Bay!!!!
I think the more people we can get to write letters to the Namib Times so that they can post them and raise awareness - the better. Come on all Walvis Bayers and Namibians alike lets save these animals!!
Tannie Christina is and will always be my role model! She was the voice for the animals and I hope that one day I can follower in her footsteps! May she R.I.P!!

We started a pet shop (mostly just fish for now) in Swakop about 4months ago. One of the main reasons we did this was because every pet shop in the town seem not to care if there are dead fish in their tank, For us it is not a job or money making thing, it is a passion. Pet shops are one of the most time consuming, but rewarding things to do. Why start something like that if you do not have a LOVE for animals. I am one of those kind of people that will(and i know this is SO wrong) go there and buy all the animals just to get them to a better place. I really think there should be someone that goes around at least once every month to all pet shops and check on things. I want to go there to see for myself, but the idea alone brings tears to my eyes and i might do something i`ll regret. Please keep us up to date!!!!
