Keep our Country CLEAN!!!

i have been guiding safaris in Namibia for 10 years and can happily say it's one of the most fulfilling jobs you can get...that's if you love nature and people!

Namibia is in general an clean and unspoilt country, but there is one or 2 things i have noticed. everybody knows the shipwreck lying on our coastline between Henties and Swakop, please have a look around when you walk around and then you will come to notice all the rubbish lying on the beach, then get into your 4x4 and drive a few km's on the beach and it does not stop. until you get into town actually.

Between long beach & Swakop is the same story and you can only blame the people who uses it for recreational purposes!!!

Drive into our towns and you'll probably notice it's quite clean (most of them), so why is this then???

Come people of Namibia we live in one of the most beautiful places on this planet and surely you want your kids to enjoy our beaches and not step into old rotten hooks or broken beer bottles.

take your rubbish with you next you're in mother nature!!!

I am with you

I am with you on this one , however the people just dont care.I was once a 4x4 owner and I placed a article in the newspaper to get all interested 4x4 drivers to go to swakop with allot of blackbags and clean the beaches. I would have got sponsors for fuel and I planned that we all camp at Jackalsputz ,what a good time to meet new people and enjoy a weekend for a good cause. You know what happened ? nobody phoned me ! not even one person accept for a guy who had a little truck that would drive the garbage to the dumpside for free. Now that is just to show you how much people care .....When I go to the beaches I always take a few bags with me and while I am driving I pick up other peoples garbage , at the end of the day I have a whole bakkie full and then I have to get it dumped at a legal place in Swakop. My friends think I am crazy when we go fishing , but hey , someone has to clean , I soon will be a father and I do want my child to play on clean beaches. If I catch someone like that , be sure of it he will get to know me .....ask my neighbour who duped his Sh#t in the busk behind my house.

Get the youth involved

Thanks for your reply to my letter, Donkey!!

It's a big problem and obviously we can't count on town counsel to keep our environment clean, so i have decided to save up some money from now until the end of 2010 and use the funds to maybe get the schools involved to help cleaning the beaches on weekends.

i thought of paying a small fee to the kids for each refuse bag they fill up and provide them with lunch. i think this will be a positive way of cleaning up the beaches and at the same time educate the kids to keep their country clean, we use to do this when i was still in school.
